Fort McHenry

Step into the War of 1812 at the historic Fort McHenry. Living history demonstrations can breathe new life into the history you learned in a classroom. After watching the British bombard Fort McHenry, Francis Scott Key was inspired to write the words to our national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner.” In fact, the poem was originally known as “The Defence of Fort McHenry.”

Edgar Allan Poe House & Museum

One of America’s most well-known authors, and the father of the modern short story, Edgar Allan Poe called Baltimore his home. Today, visitors can see where Poe wrote some of his early works and celebrate his legacy at the museum.
