How do I return my rental car to Budget?

To return your rental car, head to the predetermined Budget location, gather your belongings from the vehicle, and then check in at the rental counter. You’ll need to hand over the keys and finalize the check-in form then you can be on your way.

 

Since the return process can vary from one location to another, make sure to verify the details of your return with your Budget location.

What do you need to do before returning your Budget rental car?

Ensure your rental is in the same condition as when it was picked up. You will need to fill the gas tank ahead of time, unless you opt to have us fill the tank instead. (This option is usually more expensive.)

Because longer rental periods usually result in lower daily rates, your daily rate could increase if you return your rental car early. Remember that rates vary by location and reservation timeline, and your overall rental fee may be affected by early returns.

 

What happens if you damage a rental car?

The outcome of a damaged rental car depends on whether or not you purchase a loss damage waiver with your initial reservation.

If you damage a rental car, it’s important to take action immediately by following these three steps:

  1. Contact the police and file an accident report

  2. Contact Budget’s 24-hour roadside service at 800-354-2847

  3. Fill out an accident report from Budget and fax the completed form to 720-479-4034

Did someone else cause the damage to the rental car? If so, make sure to get the contact information from that person to include in your reports.

 

What is considered rental car damage?

Rental car damage can result from many different scenarios, including (but not limited to):

  • Theft

  • Damage to tires

  • Floods, earthquakes, or other natural disasters

  • Collisions or rollovers

  • Vandalism

  • Damage resulting in the need for medical attention

Even if the damage was not your fault, you are responsible for getting the information from the other party and may be liable for damages.

Is there a grace period for rental car returns?

Yes, Budget offers a 29-minute grace period for all rental car returns. This means that all vehicles returned within 29 minutes past the 24-hour window will be accepted without additional fees. After 30 minutes, customers will be charged an additional hourly rate, plus taxes.
