San Francisco Tourist Attractions

Whether business or leisure brings you to the City by the Bay, you won’t want to miss seeing these famous tourist attractions.

Golden Gate Bridge

No visit to San Francisco is complete without seeing the iconic, art deco–style Golden Gate Bridge. You can enjoy the view of the bridge from Fort Point, Baker Beach, Lands End, or dozens of other lookout points. If you have the time and the legs for it, walk or ride a bike for the 1.7-mile span of the bridge. Stop by the Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center to learn about the bridge’s history and its 1930s construction.

Alcatraz Island

Hop on the ferry at Pier 33 to visit the historic and infamous Alcatraz Island. Once you’re on the island, you can either explore it by yourself or take an audio tour of the cellhouse. If you visit in the evening, you can take a more comprehensive tour given by a park ranger. You can learn about the island’s history as a military garrison and prison, a federal penitentiary, and its Native American occupation during the late 60s and early 70s.
